Race Riots Bike Tour

As a church that loves the city and seeks to be anti-racist, we are inviting you to participate in a bike tour designed by the Newberry Library and Blackstone Bicycle Works which explores the events of the 1919 race riots through a self-guided app.

As a church we will follow the tour on Saturday, July 25 & Saturday, August 1 at 10:00 AM beginning at 31st Street Beach. The tour will be around 7 miles round trip and will visit a number of significant sites in the Bronzeville and Bridgeport neighborhoods. Please sign up via this google document if you are interested in participating: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NqapnI11gF3njjKJxm8eO7RnabgDnG1XcCKas2rY4Xo/edit

We hope this is a (safe and socially distant) opportunity for us to reflect on the ways anti-Black violence has and continues to shape life in our city according to race, power, and policing dynamics. May this be another way to take the global movement for Black Lives and start engaging at the local level.

If you would like to participate, but don't have access to a bike please reach out and we will accommodate as best we can. Be sure to bring a water bottle and wear a mask!
